Because of my race, I am not accepted into the only form of "feminism" which actually seems to have things pretty much figured out.

Reading this, I am reminded why. White people, myself included, constantly forget the privileges our society is structured to give us. Thank you for staying strong and reminding all of us white people out there to watch and listen to others because we are wrong just as often or more often than we are right.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-528074983146803930.post-69994053817295345562009-04-22T10:59:00.000-07:002009-04-22T10:59:00.000-07:00"POC need a space solely devoted to our issues and..."POC need a space solely devoted to our issues and this is not a selfish act when we consider that much of our social energy is spent promoting whiteness. How many times must we hear the backlash about BET, Black History Month, Jet, or Ebony? Must we continually point out that most forms of media actively promote whiteness? It seems that every time POC organize something to promote our interests, whiteness either rises to condemn it or attempts to interject itself and this is one of the purest expressions of white privilege."

This is very well said.

I am new to the concept of "womanist" / "feminist" (or rather, one million years ago I took a philosophy of feminism class and read a lot of this material - I remember "standpoint ferminism" as having some of the aspects that seem to be described in "womanist") but I see this, the pushy nature of (some) white feminists.

I personally think it is a selfish, insecure part of whiteness when it "demands" to insert itself in everything it can. Invasive, rude, and definitely oppressive, in the traditional sense of the word. I wonder what's so scary about listening for a change as opposed to running the show?kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08183686721305419157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-528074983146803930.post-67470019033971937532009-04-14T15:39:00.000-07:002009-04-14T15:39:00.000-07:00non-Christian AMENnon-Christian AMENThe Little Fetus That Couldnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-528074983146803930.post-61816732646111140542009-04-14T09:38:00.000-07:002009-04-14T09:38:00.000-07:00i am naive & slow to figure things out. i rec...i am naive & slow to figure things out. i recently embraced my feminist nature--which i had spent my first 38 years not knowing what to do with. one of the first feminist theory books i read was by bell hooks. i was aghast to find out that there was racism in feminism. really? now as i delve deeper into feminism i can see why it has so many issues. why aren't we united instead of all the petty bullshit. sadly, this is the first ive heard of womanism. but i would like to learn more. thank you.em for mightyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03652288085526823946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-528074983146803930.post-18427548698489571562009-04-14T07:27:00.000-07:002009-04-14T07:27:00.000-07:00Hey Macon,
